In our quest to find cool station wagons this week, we came across this cool Blue-over-Blue ’65 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu four-door station wagon you can find currently on Hemmings.com in New Eagle, Pennsylvania where the seller is asking $25,000. The owner completed the restoration of this straight car car in 2005 and as the pictures confirm, the car remains in excellent condition. Based on both the NADA Collector Car Guide and the Hagerty Insurance Online Tool, the private seller has his car very reasonably priced. This is a classic example of how its much cheaper to buy this older restored car and enjoy it now rather than spend double over several years to replicate this car.
The owner states this car features the original body panels and is “super straight.” The pictures provided confirm this. The Torq-Thrust wheels are an excellent choice for the otherwise stock exterior. The lack of fender engine badges suggest that this may have been a six-cylinder car from the factory, but no harm no foul in this case.
The interior also presents in excellent condition. We love that the only chose to keep the bench seat and column shift in place. The only noticeable modification is the steering column mounted tachometer.
The restoration included installation of GM 350 cubic inch crate motor sending power through a column-shifted Turbo-Hydramatic 350 automatic transmission. The car now features a front disc, rear drum setup with power brakes with a later model dual master cylinder. The seller provides a number of uncarriage shots that highlight the attention to detail that went into the restoration as well as the complete Flowmaster dual exhaust system that must sound amazing.
Overall, we think this is a great looking and nicely restored station wagon that can get you into the old car hobby for less money than a new Corolla. Good luck with the sale!
