We found this straight and clean Black over Tan vinyl 1978 Chevrolet K10 Styleside Short Bed “Square Body” in Scottsdale trim for sale here on Craigslist in Glenn Gardner, New Jersey for the asking price of $16,000. Based on the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool, the private seller has his K10 priced about 20% above the #3 “Good” level which will seem like a bargain in a few years if these Chevy trucks continue to rise at their current rate.
Unfortunately, the private seller provides a very limited description about his truck so its unclear whether this is a nicely maintained survivor or has been nicely restored. Also, the pictures used in this post appear to be taken last summer, so be sure to ask what the truck was used for over the past winter. This truck comes equipped with air conditioning in addition to power steering and power brakes.
If not repaired or prepared properly, black-painted vehicles can highlight panel waviness especially on a truck like this. Fortunately, the exterior panels do not exhibit any flaws base on the pictures provided. Only an in-person inspection will confirm any minor flaws. The dual exhaust flowing out from under the tailgate of this truck is the only modification we believe has been made as the factory system originally exited behind the rear passenger wheel.
The tan vinyl interior presents in like-new condition. Will prefer the simple entry-level Scottsdale trim versus the more upscale Cheyenne or Silverado versions available at that time. While equipped with roll-up windows, the factory A/C will minimize the need to roll down the passenger side. Although difficult to tell, it appears the factory radio is still in place.
The engine bay appears to be unmolested and only needs a weekend’s worth of detailing to make it ready for display at any local car show you want to enter it into.
The one picture of the undercarriage and one of the driver’s side inner door show these known trouble spots are flawless on this example. The private seller also notes that the new tires have only 200 miles of wear.
This K10 is a great, fairly priced example we’d prefer to see the next caretaker leave and enjoy as is. Good luck with the purchase!
