“The Sports Sedan that thinks it’s a Corvette.” That was the subtitle of a MotorTrend article written by Jeff Car reviewing the 2000 model of this vehicle. Equipped with a 5.5-liter V8 producing 354 hp and 391 lb⋅ft of torque,  various road tests back in the day revealed 0–60 mph times of 5.0 seconds and mid-13 second quarter-mile times at around 105–107 mph. Impressive numbers still by today’s standards, however back in the early 2000s they were downright staggering, right in line with cars such as the Corvette and Porsche 911.

The W210 E55 provides a combination of analog performance with much simpler engineering you can no longer purchase in a brand new M-B. Mercedes engineers designed these cars to go 155mph effortlessly all day long while providing its passengers a luxurious interior and a roomy trunk.

Currently for sale here on Craigslist in Clark, New Jersey is this unmolested Black-over-Black, 152K mile, 2002 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG.  The private seller is currently asking $9,500 for his car, which based on the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool is about $2,000 less than than the #4 “Fair” level.  The private owner states “offers considered” in his ad, so if this example checks out mechanically and cosmetically, this could be a very well bought example.

The private seller states his E55 is “all stock and in very good condition.”  We love that his example is still fitted with the correct 18″ AMG Monoblock wheels the owner equipped with new Michelins.  The private seller states that during his ownership he’s replaced all of the car’s fluids. He recently replaced the engine mounts, driveshaft couplers, springs and shocks with OEM Bilstein units.

The limited pictures illustrate an interior with a driver’s seat patina consistent with the car’s mileage.  Lurking under the large AMG engine cover is a monster power plant.

The owner states that his car comes with a second set of rims and tires as well as a box of spare parts that include the original headlights.  Also included is the full set of region discs for the factory navigation system and even has a factory-quipped 3.5mm auxiliary port.

While these W210 E55 Mercedes are not as fragile as newer examples, we still recommend the buyer get a complete pre-purchase inspection to ensure they know what they are getting themselves into before buying.  If everything check out, the new owner will have a lot of fun driving this Q-Ship.  Good luck with the purchase!
