We noticed this truck was just posted earlier today here on Craigslist in Cape May, New Jersey where the seller is asking $975 or best offer as it has to be moved off his Grandfather’s property ASAP. Here is the limited description provided:
“Hi we are selling our truck in original condition first year of the automatic transmission second owner been sitting for 20 years just sold my grand fathers property and must go by the end of June. Clear title. $975 or best offer.”
The GMC “New Design” truck series launched shortly after World War II for the 1947 model year and lasted through 1954. The 1954 example presented here features the the only significant design changes this generation received. These included a new curved one-piece windshield, round tail lights, a grille design commonly referred to as the “bull nose,” and a larger 235 cubic inch inline six cylinder engine could now be mated to an optional TurboHydramatic transmission, which this example also features.
This is clearly a well used truck that will need to be hauled away, however at this price you rally can’t find a better candidate for a new Rat Rod project as this would give the term “money pit” a whole new meaning if someone seriously considered trying to restore this example. Good luck with the purchase!
