Just to clear the air, we don’t like this truck. We LOVE it!  We saw it come up Monday here on Craigslist near Poughkeepsie, New York where the private seller has it listed for $6,800.  The NADA Classic, Collectible, Exotic, and Muscle Car Appraisal Guide lists the value range of “Low”, “Medium”, and “High” for stock ’86 Rangers at $1,475, $3,250, and $5,275, respectively so you have to decide how much of a premium the installation of the 302 cubic inch V8 and all the other go-fast goodies are worth to you.

Why do we like this truck so much?  First off, we love the proportions of these generation Rangers combined with the simple straight lines.  We also love that this a straight up two door, i.e., not a Super Cab.  This is what a truck is supposed to look like, plain and simple, especially compared to today’s monsters the manufacturers continue to push on consumers. Second, we love how the current caretaker relies on Mustang parts to hot rod his truck for.  For example, the Mustang Bullitt-style wheels just set this truck off properly.  Finally, its painted a nice simple gloss black, not the “murdered” flat black everyone seems to think looks good.  While the seller is quick to point out this is a “30 footer” paint job currently, it still looks bad ass.

Read through the post and comment below on whether you agree or disagree and why.  If we bought it, the first thing we would ditch is the steering column mounted tach.  Then we would look at modifying the truck’s stance as the rake needs a bit of fine tuning to be just right.  We’re hopeful the sale includes the stock tailgate.  This appears to be an awesome little Ranger you can daily while you work on the tweaks needed to make it your own.  Good luck with the purchase!
