We came across this 1989 Dodge Dakota V6 4×4 here on Craigslist in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey where the seller has it currently listed for $2,200 or best offer.  We love the simplicity and the smaller size of this truck, so with 208K miles we see this as a nice palette to build a capable off roader that isn’t too big to hit the trails with.

While the private seller reports his Dakota “runs and drives beautifully” and “starts first try every time” he honestly reports the following three things needing attention: First is the roof paint is peeling.  Second, he notices that the brake pedal goes closer to the floor to stop it than he thinks it should, which may indicate the need for a new master cylinder, and third is the rust shown in both the passenger side rocker panel and the driver’s side wheel arch.  Despite those two spots, the seller states that the”frame is mint.”

For $2,000 you would be hard pressed get a working 4×4 truck with so much potential. We hope the next caretaker resists the urge to lift the suspension of this example but goes through the trouble to get the body looking like new again.  Good luck with the purchase!
