August 19th Update: we just saw on Craigslist that the seller just sold this truck after he reduced his price by $200 down to $6,700.
Chevrolet introduced its modern 4.3 liter (262 cubic inch) V6 engine in 1985 to replace the by-then archaic 4.1 liter (250 cubic inch) inline six in their full size truck line up. The Gray over Red 1986 C10 Stepside we found here on Craigslist in Middletown, Maryland features this engine connected to factory floor-shifted four speed. Using the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a guide, the private seller has his C10 priced $1,900 below the #3 “Good” condition level of $8,800. We note that these “Square Body” C10 prices have climbed steadily over the past two years.
Ironically nicknamed “Square Bodies” today, Chevrolet called its third generation of C/K trucks introduced in 1973 the “Rounded Line” as their new truck featured many radius details not traditionally seen on pickup trucks up to that point. Rounded details included: windshield corners, cab roof corners, door frames which cut high into the cab roof, slanted front fenders, and rounded pickup box corners. Production of third generation C/K’s lasted through the 1987 model year with only minor changes.
The private seller of this Stepside reports that his truck is “overall in good condition and runs very well.” In addition to the aforementioned powertrain, this truck features power steering and power brakes. The exterior looks very good, so we recommend confirming with the seller whether his truck as been repainted at any point. One clue that is has been are the “shaved” trim badges missing from the front quarter panels normally found just ahead of the doors.
The interior pictures provided confirm the seller’s description that the interior needs to be completely refurbished.
This appears to be a great base step side truck that we hope the next caretaker prefers to keep stock. With new tires, exhaust, and clutch, the new owner can enjoy driving his Stepside while restoring the interior. Good luck with the purchase!
