We noticed this yellow over black 1968 Plymouth Barracuda posted for sale yesterday here on Craigslist in Auburn, New Hampshire. Using the Hagerty Insurance Valuation Tool as a guide, the private seller has his Barracuda value priced $800 less than the #4 “Fair” level of $13,800 and seems willing to take an offer that’s slightly less. If the in-person of this car checks out, we think there might be a great deal in the making here.
Plymouth produced the second generation Valiant-based Barracuda for three model years from 1967 through 1969. The coke bottle styling on a two-inch longer wheelbase worked arguably even better on the convertible models such as the example presented here. The example here also features the new-for-1968 318 cubic inch “LA” engine as the smallest V8 available, and the new 340 cu in (5.6 L) LA four-barrel was released.
The private seller only provides the following one-sentence description of his car: “1968 Plymouth barracuda convertible, automatic, boot, runs and drives as it should.” We’re not seeing any noticeable flaws along what appears to be a very straight body and the properly detailed engine has us very intrigued at the quality of this car at such a low price. We’re hopeful a call to the seller and a subsequent visit to see this car will confirm this bee-color-combo Barracuda won’t sting the next caretaker. Good luck with the purchase!
