September 4th, 2019 Update: Offered at only $7,200, it didn’t take long for this example to sell. Good Luck with the purchase!
AWESOME. Datsun’s simple catch phrase for all of their Z-Car advertising by the early 1980s. Up for sale currently is a restored 1983 280ZX T-Top 5-Speed here on Craigslist in Bristol, Connecticut where the current owner is asking $7,200. Using the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a guide, the motivated seller has his 280ZX priced $1,400 more than the #3 “Good” level of $5,800. The private seller makes it clear he’s moving and needs to sell this car, so there’s likely a good chance you can negotiate a price closer to Hagerty’s estimate.
The private seller reports his 280ZX is “rebuilt from the ground up with only 5K miles on a rebuilt engine. The pictures of the engine bay show a detailed engine and more importantly, what appears to be a rust-free body under hood.
The gray and red cloth seats appear to be in excellent condition along with dash pad and door cards. The only visible flaw in the single interior picture provided is the center console cover that appears to be in need of attention.
The seller does not provide full shots of the passenger side but from what is shown his 280ZX appear to be a straight example with no rust.
While the disco era 280ZX may not have the performance of the 300Z that premiered later this model year, we still love the classic lines of this example and the T-Tops do provide a fresh air driving experience. If the in-person inspection confirms a straight and rust free body, the next caretaker will get a fun car for not a lot of money. Good luck with the purchase!
