We saw this completely restored 1962 Volkswagen Type 2 Single Cab Utility here on Craigslist in Brookhaven, New York (Long Island) where the private seller is currently asking $45,000 for it.  The NADA Classic, Collectible, Exotic, and Muscle Car Appraisal Guide currently lists its “Low”, “Average”, and “High” value range for these trucks as $13,450, $27,600, and $61,600, respectively.

Volkswagen produced their iconic split window Type 2 in various van and truck configurations from 1950 through 1967.  The example presented here is known as the flatbed pickup truck, which featured hinged side panels on three sides of the bed to make loading and unloading product easier.  The air cooled powertrain also provided room for a small storage area located at the bottom of the pickup bed behind the cab doors.  This example also features the unique bed canvas designed to keep cargo dry during transport. The growing popularity of these unique trucks in the U.S. ended up being derailed in 1964 by the implementation of the 25% tariff otherwise known as the “Chicken Tax” that is still in place today.

The private seller of his completely restored single cab relies on the pictures to sell his truck as he only provides a brief description to note that there is only 1,250 miles on the rebuilt four cylinder engine that is connected to a manual four-speed Rancho transmission.  We’re pleased to see he carried out an electrical conversion to 12 volts on his truck.

If you’re not in a hurry to go anywhere and want to look stylish doing it, the is the truck for you.  A small business could also follow suit as the current owner did and use it as a promotional tool for their company.  Either way, good luck with the purchase!
