While we came across this 1975 Chevrolet LUV Pickup on the Boston Craigslist back in August 2019, this yellow LUV is actually located in the Bay Area of San Francisco and the owner is willing to ship it anywhere. We rarely feature collectible cars from the west coast but LUVs have become such a rare sight on the East coast that we could not pass up this opportunity! The current owner has his LUV listed for $8,500 or best offer.
The value range in the NADA Classic, Collectible, Exotic, and Muscle Car Appraisal Guide for “Low”, “Average”, and “High” for these trucks is currently only $975, $2,025, and $2,650 so we’re a bit surprised by the seller’s asking price. Three years ago, the hit show Wheeler Dealers purchased one of these trucks for $1,000 and only ended up selling it for about $6,000, so we can’t see who is going to pay that much for an unrestored example that while very solid, needs a complete brake job and tires in addition to a cosmetic restoration. Consequently, this truck wins our latest “NEW!” Award (short for “No Effin Way!”).
The seller confusingly reports that this LUV is a one-owner original truck parked indoors since 1992, however we get the impression he is the second owner who has brought the truck back to running (if not driveable) condition by installing a new Weber carburetor, ignition, battery, brake master, battery, and stock exhaust. This truck also includes its original California Blue Plates. Just remember you’ll need to find alternate transportation to get this LUV home, but it will make for a nice small truck once sorted. Good luck with the purchase!
