While traditional Volkswagen-based Dune Buggies may not have four wheel drive, if you’ve ever driven one, you know that its really not needed for the off-road situations they are designed for.  So, we were thrilled to discover this 1967-based, red over black, Dune Buggy here on Craigslist in Quakertown, Pennsylvania where the current caretaker is asking $14,000.

While most dune buggies rely on a shortened VW Beetle chassis, this example features a custom tubular chassis.  Not specified in the post is the body manufacturer, however we suspect it’s a Meyer Manx with the optional side pods that give this buggy a much cleaner and more well built appearance.  The front VW-sourced beam axle features two inch drop spindles equipped with disc brakes that provide a nice stance for this buggy.

The owner reports this engine is an air cooled VW 1600 cc dual port that has been completely rebuilt with all new parts however he does not provide any additional details.  We like the use of a single carburetor in this application.

The interior is a strictly business cockpit equipped with basic gauges and high back custom bucket seats equipped with single point lap seat belts.  The private seller also notes he’s used stainless steel fittings “on 99% of this buggy.”

Our impression from the pictures provided is that this dune buggy is a high quality build that should provide hours of reliable fun even if you never take it off road.  Good luck with the purchase!
