September 2020 Update – We’re busy updating our database accurately reflect the status of every car we’ve featured since starting  This Chevy Citation X11 we first featured in September 2019 has long since sold.

Every so often as we scan through hundreds of Craigslist posts we find one that just makes us laugh with their sense of humor.  The post for this 1981 Chevrolet Citation we once found on in Lockport, New York is one of the best ones yet!  The NADA Classic, Collectible, Exotic, and Muscle Car Appraisal Guide lists the high retail of these cars at only $1,200, so you’ve been warned!

The Citation was Chevrolet’s version of GM’s X-Body line of compact front-wheel drive cars intended to compete against the onslaught of Japanese imports at the time.  Both styling and reliability failures from launch, the X-body cars quickly became the poster child for everything wrong with General Motors at the time.

The private owner of this Citation likely realizes that, so he tries to sell his Citation as best as possible with his post we’ve elected to share verbatim here:

“Take a trip back in time by making your next destination in a Chevy Citation… for sale is my 1981 Chevy Citation X-11 with only 99,000 miles on a 2.8L H.O. V6 engine and 4 Speed Automatic transmission. You’ll take command of the roadway and regain respect with your grandmother when she sees you pulling into your next fun-filled family event in your new citation. When the rest of your friends ask you why you bought it, ask them, “Why not?”. You can’t question its durability… it’s already made it 38 years with another 40 more left of afternoon fun cruisin’ on the Youngman Expressway. Has areas of rust and dings around the body which just gives it tremendous character. I know you are thinking it’s too good to be true but wait…. there’s more!! Also comes with the Patented Rusty Jones Rustproofing sticker and this complimentary Happy Birthday card found underneath the seat. Tires have great tread! Can not find another one of these anywhere! Would make for a great restoration project. Make women envious of you today by calling to set up an appointment.”

If you dare to be different and like continually tinkering with domestic cars that are generally very hard to repair, you can’t do much better than with this 1981 Citation.  On a positive note, you will be welcomed with open arms to any Radwood event you drive it to.  Good luck with the purchase!
