Posted just yesterday here on Craigslist in Manchester, Maryland is this restored red over tan 1961 Ford Ranchero Base the owner currently has listed for $15,500. Using the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a Guide, the private seller has his Ranchero priced between the #1 “Concours” level of $19,600 and the #2 “Excellent” value of $14,200.
After producing its original full-sized based Ranchero from 1957-1959, for 1960 the Ranchero became much smaller, based on Ford’s new compact Falcon. The increasing popularity of compact, practical cars combined with the economic recession of the late 1950s convinced Ford the market wanted a more one much smaller, lighter, and cheaper version of its full-sized F-series pickup. Marketed as the “Falcon Ranchero”, the new vehicle’s standard power plant was an economical 144 cu in (2.4 L) inline six the example featured here came equipped with.
The great pictures really tell the story about this nicely restored Ranchero. The private seller reports that other than the upholstery, this well documented Ranchero received a full restoration several years ago. This is a two-owner example with great original paperwork including the build sheet. With an asking price of $15,500 for a nice simple, economical “Ute” with a reliable inline six mated to a “three-on-the-tree” column shifted manual that runs and drives like new, you could not find and restore another example for that price. Whether you decide to make this a trailer queen for the show circuit or perhaps use it as a billboard for your small business, good luck with the purchase!
