Posted on Wednesday here on Craigslist in Wakefield, New Hampshire is this completely restored, red over saddle vinyl, 44k original mile, 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible the private seller is hoping to get $29,900 for, which relying on the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a guide means its currently priced $2,300 higher than the #2 “Excellent” level.

During its eighteen production run from 1956 through 1974, Volkswagen’s Type 14 or Karmann Ghia remained largely unchanged, save for minor changes needed to meet changing safety requirements over that time.  The stylish designed by Ghia in Italy never really needed to change as it was and remains a timeless design to this day. The beautiful body was actually very complex to build, however the costs of that were offset by relying on Beetle running gear to keep the car affordable.

The private seller reports that their restored Karmann Ghia is a rust free California car that is “In Excellent Condition” and “is a pleasure to drive.”  Despite only having a claimed 44K original miles from new, the engine and transmission were both completely rebuilt 8K miles ago in 2003 and receipts for this work are included with the sale.  The exterior features a professional repaint using the modern base coat/clear coat process with five coats of each.  Every part on this Karmann Ghia has been either replaced or restored and the quality shows throughout.  This example appears to be as close as you can come to a completely original car and you will likely win your class in any chow you decide to enter it in.  Good luck with the purchase!
