Posted just yesterday here on Craigslist in Mannheim, Pennsylvania is this restored and mildly customized, green over black vinyl, 105k original mile, 1973 Plymouth Road Runner the private seller currently has priced at $18,000. Using the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a guide, the current caretaker has his Road Runner realistically priced between the #3 “Good” value of $21,800 and the #4 “Fair” estimate of $15,000.
While Richard Petty won the NASCAR Championship in both ’71 and ’72 using Road Runner based cars, the 1973-74 models received completely new sheet metal and had more conventional squared-up front-end styling and changes to the rear that more closely resembled the four-door models than the earlier coupes. The top-of-the-line 440 cubic inch V8 this example features was now rated at 280 horsepower and only came available connected to the 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The new styling combined with new interior options and materials slightly more luxurious than earlier years combined to help 1973 sales increase 40% over the prior year.
The current owner does not provide much information about their 1973 Road Runner other than simply stating it has 105,000 original miles with only 3,000 of those accumulated since complete restoration. The seller reports his Road Runner is in “Very Good” condition” but you will need to interview him thoroughly during an in-person inspection to confirm the extent and quality of the restoration work.
Good luck with the purchase!
