October 27, 2020 Update – When we came across the 1966 Pontiac Tempest earlier today, we immediately recognized it as a car we first featured in September 2019.  We assumed the expired listing meant the owner had sold it last October. However, it now appears he elected to keep it another year. The latest listing uses the same pictures from nearly two years ago (see description below) and continues to ask $25,000.

Posted on Craigslist in Chardon, Ohio is this black over dark red vinyl, 96K original mile, 1966 Pontiac Tempest Custom Convertible the private seller is hoping to get $25,000 for, which relying on the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a guide means he’s currently asking $2,500 more than the #2 “Excellent” estimate of $22,500.  Similarly, the Collector Car Market Review

For its third year of production, Pontiac’s version of GM’s intermediate A-Body platform received a major facelift featuring more rounded body lines with a Coke-bottle effect similar to the full-sized Pontiacs. The Tempest was the entry-level Pontiac intermediate and while an innovative overhead cam six-cylinder was standard, optional V8 power included a Pontiac 326 cubic inch V8.

The private seller only provides short bullet points to describe what he calls a “nice driver” Tempest, so you’ll need to interview him during an in-person inspection to get more details about his car.  The biggest question we have is whether the 350 cubic inch engine connected to the floor shifted four-speed manual is actually the original 326 V8 bored out or a later Pontiac 350.  Otherwise, based on the pictures provided this Tempest appears to be a straight driver quality example that is a much less expensive and arguable easier-to-drive alternative to a GTO.  Good luck with the purchase!

Here’s the private seller’s current brief description:

1966 Pontiac Tempest Convertible
350 Motor, 4-speed
96,000 miles
Nice driver
Black with red interior.”
