October 15th, 2019 Update: At only $4,750, this rare Eagle did not last long as the seller deleted their Craigslist post. Consequently, we’re calling this one “Sold!”
We spotted this red 1990 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD Hatchback here on Craigslist in Central City, Pennsylvania where the private seller is currently asking $4,750 for it. Judging by the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool the private seller has their Talon priced about halfway between the #3 “Good” estimate of $6,700 and the #4 “Fair” (Daily Driver) value of $2,900.
In the late 1980s, Chrysler and Mitsubishi developed a joint venture called Diamond Star Motors which built a manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois. Diamond Star motors produced three badge-engineered, 2+2 Hatchback versions of Chrysler’s D Platform: the Eagle Talon, the Plymouth Laser, and the Mitsubishi Eclipse. All three cars were mechanically identical, differing only in wheels, colors, tail lights, bumpers, and spoilers. The innovative all wheel drive design made these sporty 2+2 hatchbacks a practical alternative for car enthusiasts who had to deal with snow every winter.
The private seller of this 1990 Talon reports that in addition to a recent paint job, he’s replaced a number of parts too broad to re-list here. The only disappointing thing besides not providing any interior pictures is reporting a previous owner deleted the air conditioning in a quest for more power. Not only are these cars increasingly rare, as this example points out its even more difficult to find an unmolested one. In this case, it appears this TSi may prove to be sorted and just in need of tires. If you’re looking for a RADwood eligible, nice handling hatchback that does well in bad weather, this makes a fun alternative versus a similar vintage Subaru. Good luck with the purchase!
