Posted recently here on Craigslist in New Haven, Connecticut is this 41k original mile, 1985 Buick Riviera the private seller is hoping to get $9,500 for, which relying on the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool, the private seller has his Riv priced about halfway between the #1 “Concours” level of $11,300 and the #2 “Excellent” estimate of $7,500.
The sixth generation of the Buick’s personal luxury coupe converted to the front wheel drive platform shared by the Cadillac Eldorado and Oldsmobile Toronado in 1979, making it the first front-drive production model in Buick history. While Buick offered their great 3.8 liter turbocharged V6, most consumers ordered their Riviera equipped with Oldsmobile’s 5.0 liter (307 cubic inch) V8, such as the example presented here.
The seller’s brief excerpt:
“This is an all original 1985 Buick Riviera two-door coupe 40,000 original miles with title Carfax report very clean body and mint interior it has all new tires original spare tire in the trunk 5.0 engine power seats power windows power door locks AC tilt cruise very nice car no tire kickers please !!!”
We really like the early eighties Eldorado/Riviera/Toronado triplets as the classic hardtop styling and squared-off design has held up well over the years and represents the last great personal luxury coupe design from GM. Its also worth pointing out the ’85 models are the last body-on-frame, longitudinally-mounted engine, front-wheel drive platform. These also give you the land yacht feel while still being able to fit in your garage. Besides painting the replacement front bumper fillers, we would immediately remove the faux ventiports currently on the car’s front fenders. Good luck with the purchase!
