When we came across this 2008 Beck Speedster listed on Craigslist in Marmora, New Jersey where the current caretaker is asking $38,500 for, it begs the question: does a kit car give you the same experience as the original?
Whether you call it a “Recreation”, “Kit Car”, or “Replicate” car, while it looks and somewhat sounds like a mid-fifties Porsche 356 Speedster, the VW engine, fiberglass body, and different chassis likely don’t provide the same experience as a Concours quality original example would. However, with the average #3 “Good” price (source: Hagerty Insurance) hovering around $250,000 these days, a similar experience at ten percent of the cost of a real one makes a compelling argument. The downside is that without a Porsche serial number, this car will not gain you admission to any Porsche Club.
