Update – we just confirmed the seller of this “Classifind” deleted their listing, so we’re now able to call this one “SOLD!” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

Originally posted in November 2019 on Craigslist in Bloomsbury, New Jersey is this driver quality, 20K original mile former Army 1984 AM General M925 6×6 Hardtop the civilian caretaker is currently asking $10,900 for.

By the late 1970s the U.S. Military’s 5-ton M809 6×6 trucks, based on a 1949 design, were becoming old and mechanically dated. Rather than scrap them altogether, a “Product Improvement Package” was developed to rebuild and update the M809 series into the M939 series. A new cab and hood are spotting features, but there were also other improvements.

In 1982 AM General, the original manufacturer of all M809s, began rebuilding M809s into the M939 and M939A1 series at their South Bend, Indiana plant. They ended rebuilding 24,100 of the estimated 35,000 M809s originally in service.

All models of the M939 share a common basic chassis, cab, hood, and fenders. The basic truck is a 6×6 (three axles, six wheels, all of which are powered) heavy truck.  Power came from a Cummins NHC 250, a massive 855 cubic inch inline cylinder naturally aspirated diesel producing 240 horsepower and 685 foot-pounds of torque.  The original manual transmissions were replaced with an Allison MT654CR five-speed automatic.

The M925 featured here was the standard cargo version of the series equipped with a winch.  It had a 14 by 7 feet (4.3 m × 2.1 m) body with drop sides so it could be loaded from the side by forklifts. It had a bottom hinged tailgate. Side racks, troop seats, and overhead bows with a canvas cover were standard.

Here’s the private seller’s description of his AM General M925:
