D-Cup Dagmars: 1957 Buick Special 46R Riviera Two Door Hardtop – SOLD!
November 2020 Update – We’re busy updating our database to accurately reflect the status of every car we’ve featured since starting GuysWithRides.com. This Buick Special we first featured in November 2019 has since sold. This one may have got away, but if you have your heart set on something similar, email us the details of what you’re looking for or call Rudy directly at (908)295-7330.
Chrome bullet-shaped domes, nick-named “Dagmars”, were a major car styling element found on the front bumpers of most American cars from the 1950s. If you’re not familiar with the term, it’s a reference to a ’50’s Blonde Actress with that stage name (Google it or ask your father or grandfather). While manufacturers made the domes in varying sizes, the ones on this 1957 Buick Special Riviera Two Door Hardtop we found listed in November 2019 on Craiglists in Rochester, New York are likely among the largest we’ve ever seen. The current caretaker of this Special is currently asking $15,000, which relying on the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a guide confirms the private seller has his Buick smartly priced $1,400 less than the #3 “Good” estimate of $16,400.
While the ’57 Chevy tends to get all of the attention for that model year, we’ve always liked the look of the ’57 Buicks better as the brand’s “sweepspear” side styling element worked the best with the rear window body line kink shared with other GM models of the period. The black over silver with red accents is a great color combination on this example. Based on the pictures provided, this 46R appears to be a nicely restored, driver-quality example you can enjoy cruising in all summer long. Just be careful around the front of the car as we’re sure those Dagmars will leave a nice bruise on your knees if you forget they’re there. Good luck with the purchase!
