Low Mileage Lightning: 1993 Ford F-150 Lightning 51K Mile Survivor – SOLD!
November 2020 Update – We’re busy updating our database to accurately reflect the status of every car we’ve featured since starting GuysWithRides.com. This Ford Lightning we first featured in December 2019 has since sold. This one may have got away, but if you have your heart set on something similar, email us the details of what you’re looking for or call Rudy directly at (908)295-7330.
Other than the red example Lady Gaga is often photographed driving around in, first-generation Ford SVT F-150 lightning pickups are a rare sight, especially a low mileage, example originally listed in December 2019 on Craigslist in Monroeville, New Jersey where the private seller asked $9,900 for it. Relying on the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a guide shows the current caretaker had their low mileage Lightning smartly priced $400 less than the #3 “Good” estimate of $10,300.
Ford’s Special Vehicle Team, better known simply as “SVT”, first developed its Lightning edition pickup on the 1993 F-150 as a competitor to Chevrolet’s successful SS454 1/2 ton truck. The SVT team made extensive suspension modifications front and rear as to as to the frame to improve the normal F-150’s handling. While power came from a 240 horsepower version of Ford’s 5.8L V8, the SVT team sourced a heavy-duty four-speed automatic transmission from the F-350 to handle the anticipated hard launches. While slower in acceleration than GMC’s Syclone, the Lightning retained nearly all of the towing and payload capacity of a standard Ford F-150. Produced from 1993 to 1995, the first-generation SVT Lightning was withdrawn as Ford readied the 1997 Ford F-150 for sale.
From the extensive pictures (including several chassis shots) provided, this Lightning appears to be a solid unmolested example. The only things we would change out are the dated smoked-lens front lights and the Altezza-style tail lamps. Hopefully, the private seller has the original items in addition to the factory radio should you decide to return this truck to stock. Good luck with the purchase!
Here’s the seller’s extremely brief description:
“Serious buyers please schedule an appointment to come see and drive the truck.“
