NEW! Award 25: 1979 Chevrolet Silverado Camper Special – $38,900
Since we started this website, we never ceased to be amazed by sellers whose prices are completely out of touch with solid prior rmarketplace results. A prime example is this nicely restored, 79k original mile 1979 Chevrolet Silverado Camper Special currently listed here on Craigslist in Hockessin, Delaware where the second owner firmly wants $38,900. A review of the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms the seller expects $4,800 more than the #1 “Concours” estimate of $34,100. If you are willing to pay the seller’s firm asking price, you can start the conversation by e-mailing him here.
With its desirable orange and white paint scheme, numbers matching 454 cubic inch big block, and nicely optioned top-line Silverado trim, this pickup is worth a premium. However, the aftermarket stereo and custom “Chevrolet Racing” script in the middle of the gauge cluster on what is a 25 year old restoration do not warrant the above-concours firm price. Our hunch is the seller has been watching a few too many Barrett-Jackson auctions and expects that level of price. If that’s the case and he’s really serious about selling his truck, we challenge him to consign the truck with them. Just remember, while there’s a strong chance they will have a buyer willing to pay almost $40K, he will easily pay $5,000 between the entry fee (which varies depending upon which day you place your car), the eight percent seller’s premium of over $3,000, and the cost to have his truck shipped to the event. Perhaps you can convince the seller of this and get him to realize a $34K private seller is a fair price. Good luck with the purchase!
