Potent Pony: 1977 Ford Pinto Cruising Wagon Turbo Custom – $8,000 OBO
Saying “Ford Pinto” usually conjures up images of the tiny hatchback from 1970 and not the stylishly redesigned 1977 Cruising Wagon Street Machine featured here here on Craigslist in Lynchburg, Virginia for $8,000 or best offer. Referencing the NADA Guides Classic Car Online Valuation Tool confirms the current “Low”, “Average”, and “High” retail value range to be $2,470, $3,325, and $4,869, respectively so the premium here is for all of the customization. In addition to realistic cash offers, the builder and current caretaker is open to trades for an ’05-’09 Mustang GT. If you are serious about buying this Custom Pinto, you can start the conversation by calling or texting Denny at (434) 426-3033.
First introduced in 1970, for 1977 Ford gave the Pinto its first significant styling updates with slanted back urethane headlamp buckets, parking lamps and grille. The tail lamps were revised except for the wagons. Runabouts offered an optional all glass rear hatch for the first time. Pinto wagons were given a new option package. Attempting to cash in on the exploding custom van market at the time, Ford now offered a sedan delivery version of the station wagon called the Pinto Cruising Wagon. The windowless sides resembled a small conversion van complete with round side panel “bubble windows” and a choice of optional vinyl graphics.
We like how the current caretaker has taken arguably one of the more stylish and rare Pinto variants and made a number of cool upgrades to make this a much better performer than stock while remaining a conversation piece everywhere you cruise in it. Good luck with the purchase!
