Stored Spridget: 1969 Austin Healey Sprite MK 4 – Sold!
When asked, most car enthusiasts know what an MG Midget is. A smaller subset of that group remembers that its badge-engineered twin was the Austin Healey Sprite such as the example listed on Craigslist in Tom’s River, New Jersey where the private seller is currently asking $4,500. A quick review of the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool reveals the current caretaker has his Spider priced somewhere between the #3 “Good” appraisal of $6,100 and the #4 “Fair” (Daily Driver) estimate of $2,700. Based on the car being stored and not running currently, we’d try to negotiate hard towards the lower figure.
Here’s the seller’s description:
“Was running good. Been sitting a couple years without starting.
Put jumper cables on it the other day and the motor turns right over just doesnt fire probably needs shot starting fluid and some fresh gas and would run fine.
Clean title in hand.
Have a brand new top still in the box that im selling with the car.
Asking $4500 obo cash only“
Rather than fiddle around with the old Austin engine, we wonder whether this car could benefit nicely by swapping in a Miata motor and five speed manual. What say you? Comment below and let us know!
