Daughter Ready: 1993 Volvo 240 Estate -Sold!

Jan 2020 | Classifinds, Wagon Wednesday

Update: This one got away, but if you have your heart set on something similar, email us the details of what you’re looking for or call Rudy directly at (908)295-7330

Familiar story: Daughter gets a license and Dad gets her a safe car.  The daughter decides to go away to college and dad gets stuck selling a safe car.  That’s the story with this 1993 Volvo Estate we saw a post earlier this week on Craigslist in Sayreville, New Jersey for $2,700 or the best offer. The NADA Guides Online Classic Car Valuation Tool confirms the private seller has his Volvo priced within in the “Low”, “Average”, and “High” retail value range of $2,200, $3,075, and $4,025, respectively.  Whether you’re just into Volvo 240 Estates or are looking for a safe first car your Daughter can start her driving career in, we like how the mechanic father appears to have thoroughly sorted this wagon as though his daughter was getting ready to drive cross country.  Then again, we really like the idea of swapping in an LS motor and making this a sleeper sled.  Whatever you decide to do, good luck with the purchase!

Here’s the seller’s description:

“White 1993 Volvo SW for sale

Bought this white 1993 VOLVO 240 station wagon and replaced a few thing’s for my daughter to drive, she used it locally for a while, but now she instead will be going out of state to collage and the car will not be needed at this time and is For Sale.

This SW passed inspection the last time it was required; New Jersey no longer requires any inspection on this car – so get in and drive (one reason I acquired it). You may find that it suites you or you can make any changes or upgrades you desire.

The SW has the usual wear and tear, very good condition but not perfect – NO RUST – tan leather seats / body color white.

Has power steering, power windows, power anti-lock brakes, air bag, air conditioned (but needs service 1993’s have 134a refrigerant – do not have R12), electric mirrors and are heated, after market radio, rear defroster and wiper.

The following parts have been replaced with NEW parts:

New battery
Bosch High pressure electric fuel pump
fuel filter
fuel pump relay
windshield wipers
fan belts
rear camshaft seal support plate
thermostat – winterized to 25 degrees below zero
distributor cap and rotor
spark plugs
spark plug wires
4 – new tires
New exhaust from the catalytic converter back
Rear seat release handle
Suspension work done a while ago
Brakes were done and have about 90% material left on ceramic pads with rebuilt calipers
Has stainless steel flexible brake lines front and rear
Rebuilt alternator with lifetime warranty from advance auto

Mileage is about 178K

Price is 2,699.99 or nearest best offer

Location is in New Jersey 08871 area

If interested you can email me or enclose you phone number and we can talk

Please no tire kickers and no lowballers

If the price seems to be not in your/ its general range I would say the work done to the car would cost you about or more than the price I am asking, however Volvos are known for there longevity and you should have many more happy miles of driving.
If you haven’t guessed by now, I was a mechanic of many trades.

No rust, huh? I can clearly see rust on the bottom of the back door.
