Its no secret we love GM’s last full-size, body-on-frame, station wagons of the mid-90’s such as this 1996 Buick Roadmaster Estate currently listed on Craigslist in Glen Cover, New York where the current caretaker is asking $2,500 for it.  Judging by the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool the private seller has his Estate priced $1,000 less than the #4 “Fair” (Daily Driver) estimate of $3,500.  The private seller Dan indicates you can either use his wagon as daily transportation or add it to your collection.

1996 was the final year for the GM full-frame classic wagons such as the example presented here.  While we don’t have any interior or engine pictures, we love the fact that this Estate does not have faux wood paneling on the sides.  The private seller states that you can use his Roadmaster for towing, so we’re assuming this example is equipped with the factory towing package, which means with the Corvette-derived LT1 V8 under the hood this station wagon can tow up to 7,000 pounds by doing the following:  install a weight-distributing hitch, dual sway controls, setting rear tire pressure to 35 PSI, and disabling the Electronic Level Control.  The towing package added 2.93 rear-axle gears and a limited-slip differential, heavy-duty cooling system including oil and transmission coolers, and a factory-installed self-leveling rear suspension consisting of air shocks, a height sensor between the rear axle and body, and an on-board air compressor. Most visibly, a pair of electric fans offset to the left under the hood was replaced by the combination of one conventional fan-driven mechanically from the engine alongside one electric fan, so be sure to look for the presence of all of the equipment during your in-person inspection.

After recently witnessing a similar example complete a positraction-inspired smokey burn-out, we’ve added the Roadmaster to our future collection wish-list.  We’ll likely never see such a large nine-passenger capable, the rear-wheel-drive car again, so this Roadmaster combines modern convenience with traditional station wagon utility.  Good Luck with the purchase!
