Fun Little Car: 2000 BMW Z3 2.3 5-Speed – Sold!
Do you prefer to a drive a fast car slow or a slow car fast? If its the former, then wait for us to post an inline-six-powered “M” variant of the Z3. If you prefer the latter, then you need to consider the inline-four-powered Z3 we found listed on Craigslist in Slatington, Pennsylvania where the current caretaker of this 2000 2.3L BMW Z3 5-speed is currently offering it for $4,449. A quick check of the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms the private seller has his car priced $300 less than the #4 “Fair” (Daily Driver) estimate of $4,800.
Both BMW’s E30 and E36 three-series chassis proved themselves to be capable handling cars with highly communicative steering that became the benchmark for all over manufacturers to copy. Yet despite using a combination of both of these platforms, the first generation Z3 received heavy criticism for not having enough power. While it’s true the “M” versions mitigated that, we love the Z3 as it’s arguably as close to getting the experience of a true British Sports Car in more a more luxurious package than an NA Miata.
While 147K miles on the clock may seem like a lot, the exterior and interior appear to belie that much usage, so we assume much of that is highway miles (you’ll need to confirm with the seller). If the seller can also produce maintenance records proving everything has been done over the years, the high mileage can be considered a good start, particularly if you plan to use this Z3 as a fun third car. Besides a good engine detailing, we would invest in a new top or at a minimum a new plastic rear window as the current one detracts from the overall look of this Z3. While not an issue when driving top-down, the faded backlight could be a safety issue if you’re caught in bad weather. Pick up this car now and enjoy the next two months getting it ready for your first spring top-down cruise. Good luck with the purchase!
Here’s the seller’s description:
