Junk In The Trunk: 1965 Ford Falcon Sedan Deluxe – Sold!
Once you get past the fresh, innovative styling the original Ford Mustang offered, underneath and under the hood, it was essentially a Ford Falcon in disguise, much like this 1965 Sedan Deluxe currently offered for $8,000 on Craigslist in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Relying on the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a guide shows the current caretaker has his Falcon priced $300 more than the #3 “Good” estimate of $7,700.
In the fall of 1963, Ford launched its second-generation 1964 Falcon featuring more squared-off styling. Using a coil spring front suspension and leaf springs in back all supporting unitized body construction, convertibles added a plate running underneath the front seat connecting the rocker panels to regain the structural rigidity lost by removing the steel roof. Ford’s launch of the Mustang in April 1964 cannibalized sales of Falcons as consumers quickly realized they could get the same options and much of the same switchgear in a more stylish body for just a few dollars more.
Based on the pictures provided, this Falcon appears to be a nice driver quality example that you can drive and show as an affordable way to get into the collector car hobby. The turquoise color combination both inside and out is a stunner even on a base sedan such as this example. A comparable equipped Mustang in the same condition will easily cost twice as much as this Falcon, so we make the argument this car could attract more attention than the typical wave of early Mustangs seen at most classic car shows. If the documentation and underside all check out during your in-person inspection, you’ll have a fun little sedan that while you won’t win any drag races with, you’ll certainly enjoy the positive comments you’ll likely receive. Good luck with the purchase!
