V12 Drop Top: 1994 Jaguar XJS Convertible – $19,500
Are you looking for a top-down cruiser to patrol the Jersey Shore with this summer? The seller of a 1994 Jaguar XJS convertible thinks he has just the vehicle for that purpose, and has listed it here on Craigslist for $19,500 in Northern New Jersey. Checking the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool shows that an XJS convertible in “Concours” condition goes for $37,500, while in “Excellent” it’s valued at $27,500. With the low mileage on display here, the seller appears to have priced this one correctly, if not slightly below market.
This 1994 soft top can be considered the final fling for the XJS line, known as a Series III model built between 1991 and 1996. Offered with either the venerable AJ6 inline-six engine or the 6.0L V12 like this car, the XJS received some cosmetic tweaks that enabled it to sail into the 90s with the basic design preserved, such as the tinted tail lamp panel that this convertible sports. With a total production run of 21 years, the XJS remains one of the most recognizable cars in Jaguar’s model lineup, and even today still exudes class. Although running costs can be high, some of the car’s running gear is essentially parts bin material, such as the automatic transmission that is a 4-speed GM-sourced unit. Regardless, it still pays to buy one that comes with a thick stack of records.
The seller doesn’t provide much in the way of details regarding the car’s history, other than to note the XJS was used in summer months only. That first picture certainly emphasizes the point, with the car parked in a tidy garage and a cover pulled over it. Mileage is under 70,000, which supports the seller’s claim of seasonal use only. Regardless, limited use doesn’t always spell limited problems, so we’re encouraged that the description at least mentions the Jaguar will be accompanied by “complete service record(s)”, which hopefully show years of TLC courtesy of a dealer or specialist garage. Summer’s around the corner, and it doesn’t get much classier than an XJS convertible. Good luck with the purchase!
Here’s the seller’s description:
“1994 XJS V12 Red Convertible . 68, 165 regional miles .
Garage keep and only driven in the summer months .
Car comes with a complete service record .
Enjoy the Jersey Shore 2020 Summer in a Jaguar Convertible”
