Blues Brothers Tribute: 1977 Dodge Royal Monaco – $19,500

Mar 2020 | Classifinds, Malaise Monday

Question:  How do you turn a collector car currently worth $2,150 on a good day into a car somebody might be willing to pay ten times more for?  Answer: turn it into a Blues Brothers tribute car!  That’s exactly what the current caretaker of this 1977 Dodge Royal Monaco currently offered for sale here on Craigslist in Buffalo, New York with an asking price of $19,500.  Researching the NADA Guides Classic Car Online Valuation Tool confirms this private seller has his tribute car priced well above the current “Low”, “Average”, and “High” retail value range of only $650, $1,400, and $2,150, respectively.  If you’re serious about purchasing arguably the coolest Dodge Monaco Royal EVER, you can start the conversation by calling Mike at (716) 687-4521 and please don’t forget to mention you first saw his listing featured here on GuysWithRides.com.

Normally, we’d nominate such a price difference as a candidate for our “NEW!” (short for “No Effin Way!”) Award, however in this case we think its perfectly justified to the point we’re ready to the current restrictions imposed in New York State and head back to my home town to buy this car and physically visit my mom in the process.

While in normal times, this “Hollywood Star Car” as the seller calls it will get you a lot of attention anywhere you decide to drive it, in these challenging days of social distancing, this Monaco has practicality:  we can’t think of a better way to use the P.A. system included on this car than to tell people you still see on the streets how you really feel about their selfishness and lack of concern for others.

About the only item that dissappoints on this tribute car is the fitting of a small block 318 versus a big block 440 to be true to the original.  The seller states its a 318 “KAAHP” motor, so you’ll need to confirm whether its topped with a four barrel carburetor and 360 cylinder heads.

In case you don’t recall it, here is the opening scene from the Blues Brothers movie where Jake asks why Elwood picks him up at Joliet prison in a KAAHP car.  You can fast forward to 1:40 to see the credits.  Otherwise, good luck with the purchase!

Here’s the seller’s description:
