Side of the Road 23: 1985 Porsche 944 5-Speed – SOLD!
June 30th Update – We learned the private seller of this low mileage original condition Porsche 944 sold his car. To the buyer we wish, “Good luck with purchase!”
Sometimes you can come across a great sports car for sale on your way back from the grocery store to refresh supplies during social distancing. That’s exactly what happened on Friday morning when we noticed this 49.9K original mile 1985 Porsche 944 5-speed for sale literally less than one mile from our home.
Guards Red with black leather, 5-speed manual transaxle, and Fuchs five spokes. Those are the quintessential ingredients for a late eighties 944 and this example does not disappoint. The current caretaker is asking $8,700 or best offer and a quick check of the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms this private seller has their 944 priced $1,200 above the current #3 “Good” estimate of $7,500. We’re very tempted to make our project Eldorado sit outside while we pick this car up and give it a thorough detail!
Most 1987s had phone dials. This car is a 1985 model, the giveaways being the 1985.5 model dashboard redesign, the lack of the CHMSL that was mandated for the 1986 model year, and the F in the 10th position of the VIN, which corresponds to 1985.
Wow, you are absolutely correct! With everything going on these days, we just quickly snapped the pictures and took the year on the sign as gospel. Thank you – we’re going to reach out to the seller now to get the scoop.
We appreciate the feedback and keep us honest! As a thank you for your help, please send your mailing address to email@guyswithrides.com along with your T-shirt size and we’ll send you a free shirt and some other free merch!
Thanks again!
