Posted one week ago is one of what appears to be a forward-control 1960’s truck collection:  check out this 1968 Dodge A100 pickup truck on Craigslist in Huntington, New York (Long Island) with an asking price of $22,000.   A review of the NADA Guides Classic Car Online Valuation Tool confirms the private seller’s asking price falls within the current “Low”, “Average”, and “High” retail value range of $11,100, $18,900, and $37,200, respectively.  By the mid-sixties, American manufacturers saw a need to capitalize on the growing compact van and truck market dominated by Volkswagen’s Type 2.  To compete, Chrysler manufactured its A100 line of compact trucks and vans from 1964 through 1970 under the Dodge name in the U.S. and the Fargo brand in Canada.  By the time the A100 launched, in addition to the VW it competed against Chevrolet’s Corvair Greenbrier and Ford’s Econoline.

To maximize cargo capacity, the A100 utilized a “forward control” design. Placing the driver on top of the front axle with the engine near the front wheels is called a “cab-over” vehicle. The nose was flat, with the engine placed between the driver and passenger, who sat above the front axle. The unibody vehicles used a short, 90 in (2,300 mm) wheelbase.  A substantially modified, Hemi-powered A100 wheelstanding exhibition pickup called the “Little Red Wagon” driven by Bill “Maverick” Golden was a popular drag strip attraction from the 1960s to the early 2000s.  Here’s a vintage Dodge commercial featuring this legendary truck.

The seller states his five window, chrome package equipped A100 spent its entire life in California up until three years ago.  This appears to be a rust-free example with a disc brake upgrade and vintage mags.  These odd-looking forward control trucks are among the hottest to find in the growing vintage truck crowd, so we predict the seller will get the firm price they are asking and likely won’t have to wait long to get it.  Good luck with the purchase!

Here’s the seller’s description:
