Update: This one got away, but if you have your heart set on something similar, email us the details of what you’re looking for or call Rudy directly at (908)295-7330

Despite Volkswagen’s timeless ’71 Karmann Ghia coupe looking the part when new, its 160cc Beetle drivetrain wasn’t exactly sports car worthy from the factory.  As a result, a cottage industry of air-cooled VW high-performance engine builders continues to flourish.  A fine example is this Karmann Ghia street machine equipped with an extensively modified 2,180cc engine listed on Craigslist in Franklin, New Jersey for $19,000 or best offer.  A check of the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms this private seller has his heavily modified Ghia priced $1,100 below the current #2 “Excellent” estimate of $20,600 for a stock example.

While we love the current caretaker’s detailed description of their Karmann Ghia and all of the details about the heavily modified engine, the video posted by a car show attendee is what really shows the car off.  (Note: the narrator incorrectly states the car is a 1969 however the seller assures us that the car is in fact a ’71(:

Overall, this Karmann Ghia comes across as a quality build throughout in a great color that we would love to add to our garage.  Good luck with the purchase!

Disclaimer: Car is not in MINT condition and has some minor defects as it was restored in 2013 but is still in REALLY GREAT condition. Runs and drives great. Very FAST. Hate to see it go but I have “Too Many Toys.” You can also see it on Youtube at one of the local cars shows. It’s not my video and I don’t know the person who made it either but I found it online. He mistakenly says it’s a 1969 but I assure you it’s a 1971. LOL! You can add this extension to view it there… /watch?v=rZzuJDPMJEE
