It’s always a treat to come across a super clean vehicle, and this tastefully modified 1990 Chevrolet C1500 Silverado listed on Craiglist in Dunmore, Pennsylvania is the latest example of how big, ugly, and expensive modern trucks have become.  The current caretaker has a lot of nice upgrades in his well-optioned Silverado to rationalize his $16,500 asking price.  While that price is well above the NADA Guides Classic Car Online Valuation Tool’s “High” retail value estimate of $6,913, checking the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool for the SS454 version as a proxy confirms this private seller has his C1500 priced between the #2 “Excellent” appraisal of $22,900 and the #3 “Good” estimate of $14,500.

The fourth and final generation of Chevrolet’s C/K line of light-duty trucks debuted on the new GMT 400 platform in 1988.  This is the final generation of Chevrolet truck to feature a traditional small-block V8 and was also the last to use the “Silverado” name as a trim level rather than the brand name for the truck.  This is also the generation that started differentiating between the light-duty GMT400 models such as the one featured here and the heavy-duty GMT800 chassis-based 3/4ton and above trucks.  In our humble opinion, this is the last good looking single cab truck Chevrolet made.  The latest generation recently introduced only served to further cement our opinion.

By the late 1980s Ford’s F150 has already solidified itself as America’s most popular truck, so armed with its newly redesigned fourth-generation C/K line and a fresh “Heartbeat of America” ad campaign, Chevrolet went after the market leader hard with commercials like this one:

With a lowered stance, American Racing wheels, and a Hurst five-speed floor shifter, we love every aspect of this nicely detailed and well optioned Silverado that happens to feature a 3000 mile old 350 cubic inch crate motor.  Candidly, if this truck was dark blue instead of black, we’d be heading up to Scranton today to make this our new company vehicle.  Hurry before we change our minds and good luck with the purchase!
