Managed Expectations: 1967 Pontiac Grand Prix Project – Sold!

May 2020 | Classifinds, Free For All Friday

Update: This one got away, but if you have your heart set on something similar, email us the details of what you’re looking for or call Rudy directly at (908)295-7330

The availability of so many nicely restored cars combined with the high cost to bring a car back from the dead makes it hard to justify a restoration project these days.  Of course, that rational thought goes out the window when you come across a well-optioned and complete original California car like this 1967 Pontiac Grand Prix non-running project listed on Craiglist near  East Meadow, New York (Long Island) with an asking price of $3,350.   A check of the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms this private seller has his project car priced about half the value of a  running #4 “Fair” (Daily Driver estimate of $6,500.  The seller tips their hand they’ve lost the storage space and needs to sell, so we’re willing to bet if you show up with no more than three large in your pocket and a flatbed to pull it out, you’ll be the proud owner of a new project.

A complete, well optioned Grand Prix with all of the trim pieces, smog equipment, options, air conditioning, and even a set of rare and desirable eight-bolt wheels.  While restoring this Gulf Turquoise over Parchment interior will leave you with a stunning example, take solace knowing that if you find the body is really beyond restoration you can easily part this Grand Prix out and likely double your money.  We honestly hope the next caretaker who buys this GP restores it to its former glory.  Good luck with the purchase!

Here are the seller’s odd description of managing expectations you need to call him and you are buying a non-running project car needing a tow back to your garage.

This car was found at an estate sale in a barn last year..The seller stated it belonged to a relative who drove it into the barn over 20 years ago..(The car is COMPLETE and ORIGINAL and in need of a RESTORATION),,,This means it does not run,,,,let me please be clear and repeat this(IT DOES NOT RUN)(YOU WILL NEED TO TOW IT AWAY)….
The car has its original all #’s matching 400 cubic inch engine(even has its original “AIR INJECTION REACTOR”(probably an original California car),,,some of its options are Power-Steering,Power Brakes,Power-Windows,Air-Conditioning,Tilt steering column,8-track radio…The color option is K(Gulf Turquoise),with a Parchment(white bucket seat interior)
It has excellent frame and floors ,and very nice front and rear bumpers…..
