19 Feet: 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe 33K Mile Survivor – SOLD!

May 2020 | Classifinds, Malaise Monday

June 15th Update:  while preparing for our latest Malaise Monday features, we noticed the private seller for this 1976 Eldorado we first featured in late May deleted his Craigslist post.  Consequently we’re calling this one sold!

For 1976 Cadillac made it known it would be the final year of production for the convertible model.  While soft top production jumped to 14,000 for that final year, the coupe versions like the one currently featured on Craigslist in the Northern Virginia area still outsold it by nearly three-to-one.   The current caretaker of this striking 33K original mile, Ice Fire Blue Metallic example is currently asking $11,500 for it.  Checking the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms this private seller has his Eldorado priced somewhere between the #2 “Excellent” appraisal of $17,700 and the #3 “Good” estimate of $9,500.

1976 marked the sixth production year for the ninth generation Eldorado.  For 1975, the Eldorado was given rectangular headlamps, a new egg-crate grille, full rear wheel openings (eliminating fender skirts) and sharper lines, all of which resulted in a much sleeker appearance, reminiscent of the 1967–70 models, even though at just under 19 feet, it was much longer than the earlier generation car.  Having received a major facelift the previous year, the Eldorado for 1976 received only minor styling changes, including a new grille, a small Cadillac script on the hood face, revised taillamp lenses and new black painted wheel covers.  While ’76 marked the final year for the convertible model, the two-door coupe such as the one featured here carried on for two more production years.  During that time, the two-door Eldorado had the distinction of being the largest Cadillac available as the downsized Fleetwoods and DeVilled debuted for 1977.

We came across this video of the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado assembly line and its interesting to watch how the convertibles were built on the same line at the same time as the coupes:

Remember 19 feet as you head out to your garage to measure its depth.  That’s how deep your garage need to be in order to fit this beautiful land yacht.  Even at the current cheap prices for gas, you’ll also need deep pockets to keep the 500 cubic inch V8’s thirst for one gallon every ten miles filled. That’s the price to be paid for a luxuriously smooth and comfortable ride you can no longer find in any production car.  The seller provides an excellent detailed description hinting this Eldorado needs nothing more than a new caretaker.  Good luck with the purchase!

Here’s the seller’s description:

“This is one very good example of a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado custom ordered with Creme hard top! This Cadillac will go great in any collection with original paint in Ice fire blue metallic, the body is in excellent condition with no prior accident history and a 1 owner car with all the inspection and paperwork to confirm it is a true 33K mileage car! This car was purchased from the original owner that custom ordered this car with all the features direct from cadillac. With the white soft opera interior and headliner in like new condition the beautiful exterior pops and makes this Cadillac one of the few cars that look just as good sitting still as well as cruising down the road. Pop the hood and the huge, freshly tuned 500 CI motor looks right at home and all other components work as they should. Brand new Edelbrock Carb and professional tune allows this car to run better than when it was new and starts right up everytime and purrs like a kitten. I just installed a new retro look modern stereo, speakers and antenna for up to date quality sound with an AUX attachment. The chrome bumpers are both in very good condition and is a quality piece that only Cadillac could produce. The interior is exactly what you would expect from Cadillac, Big, comfortable, and full of luxuries. The white leather is in exceptional condition with the padding and cushion being just as nice. This Eldorado includes, AC, digital AM/FM with USB , Cruise, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Power Locks, 6-way Power Seats, Power Windows, Auto Headlights, Telescopic wheel, Seat Belts, Leather Interior, Wood grain package,White Walls, Hub Caps (custom painted to match the exterior) , and Radial Tires. The paint is all original with a few spots touched up to contain minor rust blemishes but please understand this is original paint so it does show some normal signs of being a 42 year old car. The usually horrible degradation of the bumper filler have been addressed and replaced with factory copies of the ABS inserts and have been painted to match along with the hub caps to give it a modern look. The car runs and drives like you would expect a Eldorado to and really is a pleasure to cruise in. It is ready to be driven or would make a great car to restore or customize considering it’s incredible condition your choice. These cars are going for all kinds of crazy prices but I would like to see it go to a good home so the best offer closest to our asking price will get it.
