TROG Eligible: 1929 Ford Model A Boattail Speedster – STILL $23,500
May 23rd Update: We double-checked and while this interesting 1929 Ford Model A Speedster carries the same asking price, we noticed this listing has been updated slightly and the car is still available. Its not too late to buy this and start preparing to run it in The Race Of Gentlemen (“T.R.O.G”) this fall!
If you’ve never heard of it, The Race of Gentlemen (“T.R.O.G”) is a drag race weekend held on the beaches of Wildwood, New Jersey every fall that’s quickly become a huge, must-see event. Here’s the catch: only pre-World War II vehicles with powertrains from that era are eligible. Its not often we come across a car for sale that would be eligible for the race, so we had to feature this 1929 Ford Boattail speedster listed earlier this week for sale here on Craigslist right here in Flemington, New Jersey with an asking price of $23,500. Using the NADA Guides Classic Car Online Valuation Tool for a ’29 Model A roadster confirms this private seller has his Speedster priced within the “Low”, “Average”, and “High” retail value range of $18,300, $26,600, and $40,600, respectively. If you are serious about buying this rare ’29 Model A, you can start the conversation by either calling or texting Chris at (732) 610-3772 between 8:00am and 10:00pm only and when you do, please remember to mention you saw his listing featured here on GuysWithRides.com.
We enjoyed seeing this beautiful Speedster in person at last October’s Flemington Speedway Historical Society Car Show and agree with the current caretaker’s assessment this is a beautiful example of a late 1920’s sports car. Good luck with the purchase!
Here’s the seller’s description:
“What a beautiful Boattail Speedster we have for sale. The body of this unique racer is inspired by racing cars from the 1920s, and the rear boattail coachwork was handmade out of steel and has been expertly crafted, including an access door to a trunk and a hidden spare tire storage area. Many characteristic details such as the brooklands windows, the custom open exhaust, the steering wheel, and the dashboard give this Model A the characteristic style of that time. An original Model A four-cylinder in-line engine is coupled to a 3-speed manual gearbox. What an adventure to drive this car… Are you looking for a unique classic racing car? Then this 1929 Model A Boattail speedster may be exactly what you are looking for.
I have owned many cars from the 1920s and this is the best running, well sorted, I have ever owned. It runs extremely well and I have had the car up to 70 MPH just once to see what it would do. I think she had a little more in her, but I lost my nerve. The car runs an original cowl fuel tank with an electric fuel pump, and aluminum Ansen intake manifold with a one barrel down-draft carburetor. The car has been converted to a 12 volt system, and is still running on manual brakes. The chassis, drivetrain, and front half of the body are all original Model A components. This car started life as a 1929 Roadster and was transitioned into a boattail speedster by Olympic Speedsters which is well known Speedster shop, and they do it very well!
This beautiful street legal race car, is being offered for sale at $23,500
Please only call or text between the hours of 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM ET
I wouldn’t have the heart to do it, but this would be an awesome vehicle to show or race at The Race of Gentlemen (TROG), or the Great Race!
