Clean Lexus SC300s are hard enough to find, but throw in the exceedingly rare five-speed manual transmission and you are talking complete unicorn status. That’s exactly what we have here with this 1994 Lexus SC300 listed on Craigslist in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. The seller contends it is one of just 227 manual transmission models produced that year, and given how rarely they come up for sale, there’s little reason to doubt that number. Mileage is listed at 106,000, which isn’t terrible for the year, and checking the NADA Guide for classic cars puts the high value of an SC300 at just over $6,000, but that doesn’t account for the rarity of the shift-it-yourself.

One way to think of the first generation of the SC coupe is like a Toyota Supra wearing fancier duds. The SC was part of that freshman class of Lexus products that raised the bar higher than most imports had dared to climb at that point, easily challenging its peers at Mercedes and BMW while just shredding what the Big 3 had on offer at the time for luxury car shoppers. The SC300 came with the silky six-cylinder powerplant shared with the Supra, albeit the naturally aspirated unit. It’s strange – in the Supra, it seems like a total let-down, but when it’s paired with a manual transmission in the luxury-laden SC300? Totally awesome. While the SC400 obviously packed more power courtesy of a 4.0 liter V8 (and sounds fairly beastly with an exhaust), any car with a manual transmission hooked up to a 2JZ inline-six is worth paying attention to.

The seller clearly knows how special the car is, and points to a history of being loved by himself and previous owners. Recent maintenance is extensive, including a new radiator and hoses, timing belt and cam seals, spark plugs/wires, shocks and springs, brake rotors, pads and stainless steel lines, and much more. The car is not 100 percent OEM-correct as the seller has made some modifications, but he’s at least kept it in the family with wheels from a Toyota Supra and a modestly lowered suspension. While some modifications have to be changed, the stance and Supra wheels look sharp. If you’re looking for a Lexus your neighbors will never have, this is the one. Good luck with the purchase!

Here’s the seller’s description:

“1994 Lexus SC300 with 5speed manual. White with beige interior. This is a very rare car, one of 227 produced in 1994 and is in really nice shape. I have service records form new and since I have owned it virtually anything that need to be done has been addressed. The following is a list: new radiator and hoses, timing belt and cam seals, spark plugs/wires, shocks and springs, brake rotors, pads and stainless steel lines, lower control arms, motor mounts, transmission mount, rear end mount, driveshaft, rebuilt gauge and climate control cluster LEDS, the list goes on. Everything on the car works as it should.

The car is stock with a few exceptions which are as follows; suspension lowered approx. 1 inch, 17 in Supra wheels with staggered Michelin Pilot Sports, GS400 steering wheel, ( I have the original wheel) rear spoiler, ( I have the original trunk lid without spoiler and matching VIN tabs).

Paint is good for a 26 year old car, no rust and a few small dents/dings.

Asking $9,500 for the car. I’m not interested in trades of any sort, just a cash sale.”
