August 21st Update – Eight months have passed and the once motivated seller in January clearly appears to be firm on their asking price of $18,500 as the latest listing remains at that same price.

May 30th Update:  the motivated seller we featured on January 4th appears to be even more motivated nearly five months later as we just noticed a fresh listing for this freshly restored 1953 MG TD in a classic color combination with the price lowered $1,000 to $18,500.

Listed on Craigslist in Southhampton, New York (Long Island) is this nut-and-bolt restored, British Racing Green, 1953 MG TD the current caretaker dating back to 1973 is currently asking $19,500 for.  A quick check of the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms the private seller has his MG value-priced $3,000 below the #2 “Excellent” estimate of $22,500.

While the MG TC proved there was a market for sports cars in the U.S. following World War II, its antiquated design would not keep buyers for very long, so Morris Garages launched the much-improved TD for 1950.  Following the War, Great Britain desperately needed to export as many goods as possible to fund the country’s rebuilding effort, so the TD carried a few modifications aimed at the U.S. market. TDs imported to the U.S. now featured left-hand drive, rack-and-pinion steering, and larger bumpers making the new car was wider and heavier than the TC.  Contrary to popular belief, smaller, the TD’s 15-inch steel wheels were the only ones available – no wire version was made available from the Abington factory.

Not only is this MG TD painted a beautiful shade of British Racing Green, but we also love the baseball glove-colored leather that sets off the exterior even more.  Buying the provenance of a car that’s been owned for the better part of 46 years and then completely restored less than ten years ago is a lot of value for under $20,000 that you can get in and immediately drive away. Good luck with the purchase!

Here’s the seller’s description:

“1953 MG TD, racing green, fully restored. Motivated Seller. $19,500
