Fooled Again: 1978 Jeep Wagoneer – SOLD!

Jun 2020 | Classifinds, Truckin Tuesday

July 31st Update:  While updating our database, we confirmed the Craigslist post for this Jeep Wagoneer expired and with no replacement to be found, we’re calling this SUV “Sold!”

Three three owners (Kaiser, AMC, and Chrylser), Jeep continued to make their rugged SJ Grand Wagoneer from 1963 through 1991.  In 1978 Jeep updated the Grand Wagoneer and in the process created the first luxury SUV when it launch the “Limited” model that year.  Highly popular for many years now, the go-to company to get parts or have an example properly restored is WagonMaster out of Kerrville, Texas.  The 401-powered 1978 example listed on Craigslist in Annapolis, Maryland. The current private seller reports that while WagonMaster updated the mechanicals and interior of this example, the original dry west patina exterior in tact.   Offered at $19,500, the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms the private seller’s asking price falls between the #2 “Excellent” appraisal of $23,800 and the #3 “Good” estimate of $17,500.  Unfortunately, just as we finished this post we discovered this Jeep is actually a specialized dealer in Annapolis posing as a private seller, so we apologize for that oversight.  While its become a rarer occurrence since Craigslist instituted the five dollar posting policy last year, it still does happen.

Here’s the seller’s extensive description:

“Patina has been purposefully retained”?!?!? = we didn’t bother to restore the body.

I guess one person’s ‘patina’ is another person’s ‘needs body restoration’.

I know people are irrationally nuts about Wagoneers, but really? f this truly is worth $19,500, then I’m on the wrong planet (or living in the wrong time).

I own this vehicle and have for several years. A friend helped me try to sell it. It didn’t sell and I drive it daily to and from work and enjoy driving it.
