Complete Color Change: 1972 Triumph TR6 – $14,000

Jun 2020 | Classifinds, Sports Car Saturday

While brown enjoyed popularity as a car color through the 1970s and early eighties, it has yet to see a resurgence in modern times.  Consequently we’re not surprised the prior long-term owner of this now bright yellow 1972 Triumph TR6 listed earlier this week here on Craigslist in Lancaster, Pennsylvania brokered the change during its restoration.  Now offered at $14,000, a check of the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a guide confirms the current caretaker has his older restored TR6 priced $800 above the #3 “Good” estimate of $13,200.  If you are serious about buying this TR6, you can start the conversation by emailing the seller with your contact information and when you do please remember to mention you saw his car featured here on GuysWithRides.com.

Triumph introduced the TR6 in 1968 and produced it through 1976.  Of the 91,850 TR6s produced, 83,480 were exported; only 8,370 were sold in the UK.  Triumph’s 2.5-litre straight-6 powered all TR6’s and while Lucas mechanical fuel-injection fueled the United Kingdom and global markets,  dual Stromberg carburetors topped the engines of all calls bound for the U.S. The TR6 featured a four-speed manual transmission with optional overdrive.  Construction was traditional frame that featured a semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, front disc brakes, and rear drums. The straight-six of the TR6 has a very distinct sound and with the genuine walnut dashboard, the car gives a distinct British feel that automotive journalist James May famously describe as “The Blokiest Bloke’s car ever built.”  Here’s the video May did on these cars years ago that has us wanting to add one to our garage come day:

Based on the private seller’s description, this appears to be a well maintained and properly upgraded example of Triumph’s arguably best sport car.  The brief description below combined with what will be a detailed phone conversation will likely raise your comfort level enough to buy this car and enjoy it all summer and fall.  Good luck with the purchase!

Here’s the seller’s description:

“1972 Triumph Tr6. Great car which is sure to bring a smile to your face with that sweet 6 cylinder exhaust tone you find in older classic cars. Car has been maintained and upgraded with safety and comfort improvements. Since our ownership we have had Tom from European Motorsports who specializes in tr6’s go over the entire car(he has worked on the car since new). We have upgraded the car with Drilled rotors and braded stainless steel brake lines, rear suspension camber mod, new gas tank, fuel pump, filter, carb rebuild and tune up within last year. Many many more things we have done. I can explain a lot more over the phone. Original brown car with complete color change and restoration in late 80’s-90’s by longtime prior Owner. Large group of receipts and photos documenting car back to mid-80’s. Small top repair and strap replacement (only up a couple times a year), 90 degree oil filter update. Just a smooth great driving car. just start and drive anywhere as it’s sure to get many thumbs up
