Taken Apart In ’58: 1949 MG/TC – SOLD!
The car most often credited with starting the post World War II sports car movement in American is the MG TC as many returning GI’s purchased the cars even though they were only available in right-hand drive. Once a very popular car to restore, a shift in age, tastes, and values has left the TC a forgotten classic, especially among younger generations of enthusiasts.
With that trend in mind, we were not surprised to come across this 1949 TC listed on Craigslist in Newfane, New York (Buffalo) that’s said to be a project originally disassembled some 62 years ago in 1958. With much of the car stored in boxes and other increasingly rare pieces needing to be purchased, this project is not for the faint of heart. Unfortunately, the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms the average value of these cars continues to sit around $20,000, so given this TC’s current state, the next caretaker will likely be underwater should they choose to fully restore it.
Here’s the seller’s description:
“1949 MGTC This is a Project car Taken apart in 1958 And stored in boxes. Known parts missing are the Transmission bell housing, Tack, and Air Cleaner, Very solid original car some parts were restored. Numbers matching. The tub is still mounted on the frame for easy transport. NYS Registration is long gone. Bill of sale only.
