AACA Ready: 1977 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz 12K Mile Time Capsule – SOLD!

Jul 2020 | Classifinds, Malaise Monday

July 12th Update:  In the latest example of the best car at the right price will not last long, this 1977 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz we featured just last week in what was a day old listing has already been deleted by the private seller so we’re calling this beautiful car “SOLD!” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

If you always wished you could have ordered a brand new 1977 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz when brand new, the next closest thing to that is experience is to purchase this 12K original mile Frost Orange Firemist over Cinnamon leather example originally listed in July 2020 on Craigslist in Darien, Illinois (Chicago) where the third caretaker has it listed $18,995.   Comparing the asking price to the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms this private seller has his Eldorado priced between the #2 “Excellent” appraisal of $21,600 and the #3 “Good” estimate of $11,300.

With extremely low mileage, excellent documentation, and a detailed story (see below) of ownership of this Eldorado since new, this car makes the perfect candidate for entry into the Antique Automobile Club of America’s Preservation Class.  Good luck with the purchase!

Here’s the seller’s description:

“In 1977 NOTHING said “I’ve made it!” more then owning a brand new Cadillac, it was the ultimate status symbol! Cars produced by General Motors Cadillac Division were the epitome of the finest luxury automobiles at that time and this particular car exemplifies just that! Up for your consideration is this stunning 1977 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz. This 12,000 mile time capsule is a once in a lifetime find and would stand out in any collection. The story of this car is as follows: Mr. Robert Macha walked into Cullerton Cadillac in Brookfield, Illinois on 11/15/76 and factory ordered this Eldorado exactly the way he wanted it. He opted for the top of the line Biarritz model and chose the period popular optional Fire Mist (Frost Orange) paint color and golden brown leather which perfectly complimented the exterior color. The most interesting option box Mr. Macha checked was the factory moon roof which was installed by ASC (American Sunroof Corporation) for the factory. This option raised the amount of this already pricey car by a whopping $2,581! To provide perspective, you could have bought a VERY nice used car for $2,500 back in 1977 and Mr. Macha spent that amount just for a moon roof! Mr. Macha’s Eldorado arrived on 2/21/77 and he drove it sparingly over the next 34 years.

The next owner was a man that is known in my neighborhood for owning beautiful vintage vehicles, and he heard about this Eldorado occasionally being seen on the street. With nothing more then a few neighborhood rumors he searched until he found the exact location of the car. He knocked on the door and before you know it he purchased it from Mr. Macha in 2011! The new owner brought the car back to his shop and there it sat until 2017 when he finally registered the car. He was able to reacquire the original title back from the DMV and added it to the stack of paperwork that he had on the car. This owner drove the car maybe 200 miles from 2011-2019. I was driving past his shop last July 4th and I saw the car sitting in front and I immediately stopped and drooled over it. A few days later I owned it!

Since I have owned this car I have continued to improve on it. I removed the ORIGINAL tires that the car was born with and added a brand new set of the iconic Vouge tires for that classic look. I still have the original 42 year old white wall tires and they go with the car to the new owner. I then had the carburetor rebuilt, a new power antenna, transmission fluid changed and new pan gasket, new brake master cylinder, brand new battery, and an oil change. After doing these things this car literally runs and drives like a BRAND NEW CAR. I’m not kidding, you could drive it cross country without issue. It is an absolutely amazing riding and handling car and no wonder these cars were bought as the ultimate road vehicle. Everything works in this car (except the analog clock) including the air conditioning which blows ice cold. It feels like a time machine to be cruising with this car, leaning to the side with the moon roof open and a period 8 track playing!

The overall condition of this car is stunning. The paint is ORIGINAL with the exception of the roof which was repainted, and there is ZERO rust. The front and rear bumper fillers were also replaced (everyone knows these ALL went bad on these cars, drying out and cracking) and they were hand striped to match the factory pinstripe by the last owner who is a noted free hand master pin striper by trade. The paint is a tad flat and can stand to be buffed but that’s the beauty of lacquer paint. The right person buffing it and it’s going to shine like a mirror. There is NO damage, dents, etc, just a couple of small nicks and scratches which is to be expected with a 42 year old original paint car. The interior of this car is absolutely over the top perfect, it literally looks like no one EVER sat in it. The leather is still supple and beautiful with no cracks or rips There is literally NOTHING I can say to criticize it, it’s like a plush living room! The trunk is PERFECT and LARGE, you could fit tree bodies in dere! 🙂 The engine compartment is amazing with all of the factory markings and tags still visible. The underside of the car is solid and the original owner had the car rust proofed at the dealer prior to taking delivery of the car.

Here is the part that I geek out over. This car literally has EVERY stitch of original paperwork and documentation a car could possibly have. I mean EVERYTHING! Original order paperwork, window sticker, bill of sale and all purchase documents, ORIGINAL OWNER 1977 Illinois title, All factory paperwork, brochures, factory model year brochure, owner’s manuals, and even the factory assembly manual in the original box ordered by the original owner back in 1977! It even has the original special keys! I have meticulously organized all of the paperwork in a book and everything is in preservation archival sleeves perfect for a presentation piece.

Overall this is an investment grade automobile. The ultimate Cadillac with amazingly low original miles in brand new running and driving condition with bullet proof pedigree and documentation! A literal no excuses vehicle. With all the junks and roaches out there it’s refreshing to see this caliber of a car available for sale. Most importantly, you are buying it directly from it’s current owner, NO dealership where they spin you with lies and BS. I baby my vehicles, improving on them all, and I only own top quality stuff. The only reason I am parting with this car is because I have three others and I just lost my storage last week so something has to go! It was hard for me to choose but I have to do what I have to do. Please contact me with any questions and seize this rare opportunity to own one the finest Cadillac Eldorado’s available today! Many more pics available to serious buyers!
