Go Rogue: 1967 AMC Rambler American Rogue Convertible – SOLD!

Aug 2020 | Classifinds, Topless Thursday

August 5th Update:  A pretty convertible with a highly detailed engine, stylish Torq-Thrust style wheels, and a very realistic asking price leave no surprise on why this rare AMC convertible sold shortly after the private seller listed their car.  Price it right and it will fly!

For American Motors Corporation, 1967 proved to be the final year for offering convertible models.  Perhaps Ford’s wildly popular Mustang and GM’s new Camaro and Firebird were all to blame as AMC could not sell even one thousand units of their Rambler Rogue competitive offering that year.  This restored blue 1967 American Rogue convertible, one of only 921 produced for 1967, was just listed yesterday here on Craigslist in Buffalo, New York with an asking price of $14,900.   A review of the NADA Guides Classic Car Online Valuation Tool confirms the seller’s asking price falls at the lower end of the current “Low”, “Average”, and “High” retail value range of $10,600, $19,900, and $23,500, respectively.  If you are serious about buying this Rogue, you can start the conversation by emailing the seller and when you do please remember to mention you saw their convertible featured here on GuysWithRides.com.

The 1967 model year Rambler American used the same body styling as the previous year’s models, with only minor changes that included new tail lamps and full-length body moldings on 440 and Rogue models that was now positioned lower on the sides.  The last convertible available in the American series was in 1967, and it was moved up from 440 models to join the hardtop in the Rogue trim version. The American was available in nine models, and was the only U.S. compact to be available in “all” body styles (2-door, 4-door, sedan, wagon, pillar-less hardtop, and convertible).

Rogues also received grille trim that wrapped around the fender sides. All Rambler Americans received a new grille insert with prominent chromed horizontal bars. The 1967 Rogue models were available in new two-tone paint schemes for the roof, trunk lid and hood that included border trim along the upper body line.

The 1967 model year also saw the addition of the new safety standards for passenger cars mandated by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The regulations began with seat belts on automobiles produced after March 1, 1967, which the example featured here is equipped with. The 1967 Rambler Americans also included a collapsible, energy-absorbing steering column and steering wheel, more padding on interior surfaces, 4-way hazard flashers, and locking seat back latches for 2-door models. The instrument cluster was changed from the previous rectangular design to round gauges: The speedometer and odometer was center, with twin, smaller fuel and engine temperature gauges, with matching warning-light pods on both sides of the speedometer.

All 1967 Americans were covered by AMC’s comprehensive warranty designed to increase customer confidence in their vehicles with the tagline: quality built in, so the value stays in. It was the strongest backing among all the automakers up to that time: two years or 25,000 miles on the entire car and five years or 50,000 miles on the engine and power train. American Motors continued its industry exclusive ceramic-coated exhaust system as standard on Rambler Americans.

The glossy turquoise paint, highly detailed engine, and stylish Torq-Thrust style wheels have us sold on this Rogue.  If you dare to be different and want an economical sixties convertible that fits easily in your garage, look no further. Good luck with the purchase!

  1. Go Rogue: 1967 AMC Rambler American Rogue Convertible – SOLD!

    Hi there!
My name is Mr Ashley Medicks. My Dad Stanley bought a beautiful 1967 AMC Rambler Rogue convertible with the straight six 232 engine, brand new, for my Mother Monica. He was a car dealer in North London, UK. She adored it, but unfortunately only had it for 6 years before succumbing to cancer. He’s gone now, so it’s come to me in Scotland. It’s in remarkable original condition, and come out, with her top down, on sunny days.
The only person ever to smoke in her was my Mom. In the ashtray, there are Rothman’s cigarette butts with traces of her red lipstick. She passed in 1973! I have photos!
