Perfect Patina: 1958 Chevrolet Apache 3100 Stepside – SOLD!

Aug 2020 | Classifinds, Truckin Tuesday

August 10th Update – Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you get painfully reminded you haven’t!  When we went to check the link for this ’58 Apache we just featured last week, this patina’d example was replaced in the same link with very lime green ’59 3100 street machine.  We have to give credit to the seller for pulling a fast one on Craigslist and pocketing and saving five bucks for selling another truck out of his collection.  Click here if you’re interested in seeing the new listing for the ’59.

Chevrolet’s ’55-’59 “Task Force” line of pickup trucks were the first step in incorporating styling cues from the company’s passenger cars.  This well-trimmed 1958 Apache 3100 short box stepside example we found  in Huntington, New York (Long Island) epitomizes that.  The private seller asked $14,500 for his Series 3100, which relying on the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a guide confirms he has his truck priced between the #3 “Good” appraisal of $18,400 and the #4 “Fair” (Daily Driver) estimate of $10,800.

Chevrolet produced its Task Force line of light duty trucks for the 1955 through 1959 model years.  During its run, Chevrolet introduced more car-like styling and creature comforts including dealer-installed air conditioning. For 1958, the 3100 line introduced the new Fleetside bed available in either 6.5 foot or 8 foot lengths.  Consistent with GM’s passenger cars in 1958, the pickup line received a significant front end redesign featuring quad headlamps combined with parking lights mounted in the grille.   All light-duty trucks were now called “Apache”, medium-duty trucks called “Viking”, and heavy-duty trucks called “Spartan.”

With its freshly upholstered seat, new wheels shod with fresh tires, a 12 volt electrical conversion, and a modern aluminum radiator, this patina’d pickup is a great way to cruise around whether you decide to daily this truck or to just use it for cruise nights.  Good luck with the purchase!
