Aug 2020 | Classifinds, Truckin Tuesday

October 20th Update: We just confirmed the Craigslist ad for this car expired and with no replacement listing found, we’re assuming this car sold.  This one may have got away, but if you have your heart set on something similar, email us the details of what you’re looking for or call Rudy directly at (908)295-7330

We make no secret of how dumbfounded we are on why all truck manufacturers insist on making even small trucks big when truly compact versions such as this 1985 Chevrolet S10 just listed in August 2020 on Craigslist in Rockland City, New York remain so popular.  This V6-powered example with a rare five-speed and factory air conditioning is extra special with only a stated 57,000 original miles carries an asking price of $8,200.  Hagerty Insurance doesn’t provide a price guide yet for these trucks and Checking the NADA Guides Classic Car Online Valuation Tool current “Low”, “Average”, and “High” retail value range of only $1,805, $2,541, and $3,254, respectively prove the private seller is hoping someone will pay a premium for this low-mileage, well-optioned survivor.

Chevrolet’s S-10 and GMC S-15 siblings were the first domestically built 1/4-ton pickup trucks when they launched for the 1982 model year. Not surprisingly, GM relied on its existing parts bin where possible to build the new trucks.  Track width and some suspension components were similar to the former GM H-body subcompacts (think Vega/Monza). While Pontiac’s 2.5 Liter “Iron Duke” four-cylinder engine came standard in 1985, most buyers opted for the optional 2.8 liter V6.  The Chevrolet and GMC models were identical apart from the grille, tailgate, and assorted insignia.

Here’s a link to a 1985 Chevrolet Dealer sales training video we came across on YouTube:

The seller lets the few pictures do the talking for this low-mileage, well-optioned survivor.  We assuming the mention of this truck being formerly owned by a mechanic means everything works on this truck as expected, but only your in-person inspection can confirm that.  Good luck with the purchase!

Here’s the seller’s description:

“Red, all power equipment, A/C, 5-speed manual, previously mechanic owned and operated, excellent condition, 57,000 original miles. Has usable pickup bed with cover. Asking $8,200.
