February 5, 2021 Update – We just confirmed the listing for this “Classifind” expired, so with no replacement found we’re assuming this ride “Sold?” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

Mercedes-Benz has long been a company known for producing iconic vehicles, but recent years have raised some doubts that its current models will be as cherished as its forebears. One of the last generations that have entered into revered status is the W124 cars, and this handsome E320 coupe originally listed in October 2020 on Craigslist on Long Island is described as a turnkey driver offered up for $15,500. Comparing this price against the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms this private seller has priced it just under the value of an “Excellent” model, which is pegged at $17,800. A “Good” condition model would be rated at $8,900, so there’s quite a gulf between the two.

The W124 chassis for Mercedes was a definite high watermark for the company, capturing the bank vault-like quality that the W123s made standard across the company’s lineup, with some much-needed improvements as it related to equipment and performance. While the W123s were celebrated for their impressive reliability, the W124s captured that spirit and provided performance abilities that can still keep up with modern traffic (especially in V8 form). The company faced some negative headwinds with the infamous biodegradable engine harness, which this W124 falls in the range of affected model years (1992-1997). While certainly a major headache, this ailment has done little to stop enthusiasts from snatching up solid W124s.

Here’s a classic W124 model line commercial currently posted on the Mercedes Benz Highway Star Youtube Channel:

The seller’s description indicates that it’s not currently suffering from engine harness issues, as it’s described as running just like it did when it left the showroom. This may seem like typical seller hyperbole, but it’s not – well-loved W124s have a tendency to run like new even with six digits on the odometer. One would hope the car has been lovingly maintained for the asking price, and the seller does mention some recent maintenance that includes attention given to the air conditioning system, which has been updated with new auxiliary cooling fans, radiator, and hoses. AMG wheels have also been installed, and the charcoal paint is a nice change of pace from the usual whites and blues. The W124 is a modern classic and one that is only going to go up value-wise. Good luck with the purchase if you make moves to take this E320 coupe home.
