First of the Last: 1993 Buick Roadmaster Estate – SOLD!
October 20, 2020 Update – Just one week after posting, the private seller of this Buick Roadmaster already deleted their post, so we’re calling this one “Sold!” This seemed like a great car at an appropriate price, so we’re not surprised it went quickly.
Buick’s reincarnated its storied Roadmaster brand in 1993 with a full-size, rear-wheel-drive four-door sedan and a traditional Estate station wagon. This final generation of traditional American station wagons is becoming a very collectible commodity. This loaded 1993 example, last listed on Craiglist in Easton, Pennsylvania, appears to be a very nice survivor-quality example with a $6,999 asking price. Checking the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms this private seller has their Estate priced somewhere between the #2 “Excellent” appraisal of $9,200 and the #3 “Good” estimate of $5,800.
The Roadmaster name returned to the Buick line for the 1991 model year after a 33-year absence, with the third-generation Buick Estate wagon becoming the Roadmaster Estate. A four-door sedan was added to the Roadmaster line for the 1992 model year, the first rear-wheel-drive Buick sedan since 1985. As with its precursor, Buick based the new Roadmaster Estate wagon on GM’s full-size rear-wheel-drive B platform, closely related to the GM C-body and D-body chassis reserved for top-of-the-line Buicks and Cadillacs. It rode on the same 115.9-inch wheelbase since the wagon series was downsized from the C-body in 1977, yet was three inches shorter than the 1990 model. Unfortunately, Roadmasters for 1992 and 1993 made do with inadequate small-block V8s before Buick replaced them with a detuned Corvette LT1 mill for 1995.
We came across this 1992 promotional video Buick produced to relaunch the Roadmaster brand name in 1992:
While not the slightly more desirable LTI-powered Roadmaster of ’95-96, based on the pictures and description provided, you won’t be disappointed by this earlier example. Good luck with the purchase!
